Ang Rita Sherpa was born in a small village in Nepal. He did not go to school. He looked after yaks when he was young. Later, he carried loads across the mountains. He started climbing as a porter when he was 15 years old. He did not learn climbing in a school. He learned it by doing it. He first climbed a big mountain when he was 20. It was Mount Cho Oyu. After that, he climbed many mountains. He climbed Mount Everest ten times. He did this without carrying extra oxygen. This is very hard to do. Most climbers carry oxygen with them.Ang Rita Sherpa set a world record. He climbed Everest six times. Then he did it four more times. He was the first person to do this without extra oxygen. He also climbed Everest in the winter. This is very rare. He did this in 1987. People called him the “Snow Leopard”.
